How it works

Your rate card in.A quote out.

  • Packages

Up to four, each with a name, a number of finished photos, a price, and the largest home that price covers.
  • Larger homes

A fixed amount for every step of square footage past the package's limit. A part step counts as a full one.
  • Add-ons

twilight exteriors, drone aerials, virtual staging, listing video, floor plan, 3d tour, next-day delivery. Each is priced per shoot, except virtual staging, which is priced per photo.
  • Travel

Miles included, a rate per mile after them, an optional charge for the drive back, and a minimum fee once travel applies.
  • Your time and costs

Hours on site, your editing time or a paid editor, drive time at your average speed, and vehicle and other costs. The quote shows what it pays you per hour.

The math

Every line,added in plain sight.

The quote is the package price, plus the larger-home steps, plus each add-on, plus travel. Money is counted in whole cents, so the lines always add up to the total.

With the example rate card the tool opens on, a 3,200 sq ft home on the Standard package (25 photos, covers 3,000 sq ft) with twilight and drone, 32 miles away, comes to:

Standard · 25 photosHomes up to 3,000 sq ft
$225
Larger home1 × 1,000 sq ft over, at $50 each
$50
Twilight exteriors
$125
Drone aerials
$125
Travel12 mi × $1, 32 mi away, first 20 included
$12
Total
$537

The hourly figure is the total minus your costs, divided by your hours: time on site, the drive there and back at your average speed, and your editing minutes per photo. With the example costs that is 4.6 hours and $42 in costs, so the shoot pays $108.11 an hour. These are example numbers. Put in yours.

Setting your prices

Know your floor. Then pick your place.

A price that feels fine per shoot can pay badly per hour once the drive and the editing are counted. Fill in Your time and costs once and every quote tells you what it pays, and what it would need to be to reach the rate you want.

Then decide where you sit. Look at the price lists other photographers near you publish, and at how full your calendar is. A calendar booked out weeks ahead is a reason to raise prices; a quiet one is a reason to look at what you offer, not only what you charge.

Keep add-ons and travel on their own lines. A client can see what each one costs, and you can point to the line that makes one quote higher than another. When you are ready to share the shot plan too, the shot list generator builds it from the same property.

Questions

Asked often.Answered plainly.

How much should I charge for real estate photography?

Start from your own costs and time, not from someone else's price list. Add up the hours a shoot really takes you, including the drive and the editing, and what it costs you to get there and deliver. The calculator shows what each quote pays you per hour after those costs, and the price you would need to reach the hourly rate you want. Then look at the published price lists of photographers near you and decide where you want to sit.

Should I charge per photo or per package?

Most clients find a package easier to buy: a set number of finished photos for homes up to a certain size, with add-ons on top. The calculator works that way and also shows the price per finished photo, so you can compare your packages with each other or with a per-photo quote.

How do I charge for travel?

A common structure is a number of miles included in the price and a rate per mile past it. In the rate card you set the included miles, the rate, whether the drive back is billed too, and a minimum fee once travel applies. The quote shows the billable miles and the rate on its own line.

How do I price larger homes?

Each package covers homes up to a square footage you choose. Past that, the calculator adds a fixed amount for every step of square footage you set, counting a part step as a full one. Set either number to 0 if you price size another way.

Are the starting numbers in the calculator market rates?

No. They are example numbers so the math has something to show on first load, and the tool says so. Replace them with your own prices. Nothing on this page is a statement about what photographers charge in any market.

Is my rate card saved?

Your rate card and your cost inputs are kept in this browser on this device when the browser allows it, so they are there next time. They are never uploaded. The shoot details are not saved.
